ZEN12 always reporting motion active

I installed the new ZEN12 motion dimmer. I can manually turn the light on/off. It turns on with motion, then off 30 seconds later (even if motion continues). Since I want the light to stay on as long as there is motion in the room, I disabled motion detection (parameter 13) and wrote a rule to turn in on with motion and off when there is no motion. I’ve paired it to a Hubitat hub and the motion state is always shown as “active.” I can trigger the rule based on motion active, but since it never changes to inactive, I can’t program when to turn the light off.

I have two of these units and tried setting up the second one and see the same behavior. I did not change any parameters from default in the second one, but it always show motion as active. How can I get reliable motion events?

Thanks!

Hello. I evaluated the pre-production ZEN12 (slightly different than the production model you have) and had the same issue on Hubitat. Motion reports - but ‘no motion’ didn’t report. The issue I believe is with Hubitat’s ZEN12 driver, since it reported clear events in other platforms. Here’s a link to my video showing the issue. Take a look at about the 6:35 mark.

Not sure if there is additional help the Zooz team could provide. In the meantime I’m happy to see if I can find a better driver for this device and/or maybe another workaround.

Hello. I just re-tested this under Z-Wave JS and Z-IP. (C-8 Pro v2.5.1.143) Using the “Zooz ZEN12 Motion Dimmer” type, and currently have it joined in mesh mode with S2 security.

Z-Wave JS Test

Functional. I receive both motion and clear events.

Firmware version: 7.18.1
ZWave-JS version: 15.26.0

(event log Below)

Z-IP Test

Non-Functional. I receive motion events but no clear event.

Running Z-IP I see the same behavior as you - the motion clear isn’t processed by the Hubitat. Not sure of the difference but I’m sure someone on the Zooz team may chime in.

I assume you are running Z-IP? What model Hubitat and what version?

Note that this my testing is based on the pre-production model I have, so your exact mileage may vary. Back when I shot that video I did not have a C-8 Pro, so I wasn’t running JS !

Thanks for reaching out! This issue has been reported directly to Hubitat, as it is hub-specific, so there should be a resolution availble shortly.

Thank you for your information. I am still running ZIP. I’ve sent some logs to Hubitat, so hopefully they will have a fix soon!

Bryan at Hubitat just got back to me; he’s found the issue and is working to update the integration as we speak
