Perhaps I’m speaking out of turn here since I’m only a (loyal ) customer, but the email blast from The Smartest House regarding the current sale item, $11 off the Zooz ZEN77 ZWLR S2 Dimmer ZEN77, includes the following:
Tariffs…
As you’ve probably heard, all imported goods from China and Vietnam (where most of Z-Wave devices are manufactured) are now subject to high import taxes. These tariffs directly affect our supply chain and logistics operations.
We have enough stock to offset the cost for the next few weeks but inevitably, retail prices will rise this year as we navigate this abrupt policy change.
We appreciate your support and understanding in the meantime.
I’m also thinking of ordering a few more items before the craziness affects prices…
Thankfully, we’re not too conservative about our stock levels so we have enough product to keep the prices as is for the next few weeks. This means we don’t need to make any panic moves or push our customers to stock up now. We’ve stocked up for you!
Here is where we are today (4/11/2025) with how the current tariffs affect pricing and availability:
All prices on The Smartest House website (where we can fully control them) will not be raised until we sell through our existing inventory.
All shipments from China are put on hold until we get a better idea what the near future looks like around imports. Currently a third of our products are manufactured in China.
Devices manufactured in Vietnam (the majority of Zooz devices) will be shipped as planned. Prices will likely increase per the existing tariff level (around 10%) but only for upcoming shipments where these tariffs are applied.
We’re forced to put any sale events or bulk discounts on hold to ensure we have enough inventory to get us through this stormy weather.
We’ve always tried to keep our product line as affordable as possible and will continue our effort to make the most value-packed Z-Wave products on the market.
Thank you for being patient with our team and for supporting small business.
Quick Update on the Tariff Impact and Zooz Supply Chain
Shipments from China have resumed, and we’re doing our best to maintain current prices on The Smartest House, even for newly arriving products.
While we had to cancel the Memorial Day Sale, we’re still planning to run our 4th of July Super Sale at The Smartest House during the first week of July. Until then, our Deal of the Week is back! Check every Monday for new discounts.
Bulk pricing is now available for orders of 20 or more units of the same model. Discounts apply to devices unaffected by tariff-related costs or inventory issues.
We’re redesigning the tilt / shock sensor so it will be a little while before it’s back. Unfortunately, one of the biggest loss drivers behind the political uncertainty is that we all needed to shift our focus from product development to supply chain and operations. The fact that we only get to calculate our import cost for a 90-day period at a time doesn’t help with planning. Cliffhangers work on tv but they’re bad for business… That’s all to say we will do our best to keep healthy stock levels and our prices down.
Going to the CR2450 battery, I hope? (My experience with the CR2450 battery is better performance in cold(er) environments, like an unheated garage.) Sounds like a winner!
The plan is to update the size of the device, battery, and the tilt mechanism itself. We’ll post all changes in the ZSE43 changelog once they’re finalized. Thank you for the feedback!
