Europe LR when?

When are you guys updating your EU devices to Long Range?

Great question! Devices currently available in Z-Wave Long Range (LR) for the EU frequency will still require a full SDK update. This is due to a recent regulatory shift in the EU frequency allocation specifically for Z-Wave LR.

We plan to update our EU devices to fully support the Long Range protocol under the revised EU frequency rules. However, this process will take some time because it involves adapting the software stack to the new parameters and completing the necessary SDK update.

Technical note: The SDK update is necessary because the Z-Wave LR frequency change in the EU affects core radio communication parameters, such as channel allocation and frequency hopping patterns. These are deeply integrated into the SDK’s network layer and cannot be modified through a simple configuration change. Instead, the SDK must be rebuilt to comply with the updated frequency plan, ensuring devices can legally operate and maintain interoperability.

For the reasons listed above, this won’t be a quick process, but we are already nearing completion on a couple of devices. Once the new firmware is ready, the update can be delivered to compatible devices via OTA.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Are there any plans or perhaps even release dates for firmware updates regarding EU Long Range? I am specifically asking about the ZEN15, ZSE11, and ZSE42. The update worked perfectly for the ZSE44.
Best regards,
Oliver

@memphiz We are gradually expanding support for Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR) in the EU region across more devices.

Currently, the following products support ZWLR EU via OTA firmware updates:

  • ZEN17 — firmware 2.20

  • ZEN37 — firmware 2.30

  • ZSE41 — firmware 2.30

  • ZSE44 — firmware 2.30

Our software team is currently working on updating the SDK library for the following devices to enable ZWLR EU support:

  • ZSE70 Outdoor Motion Sensor

  • ZSE42 Leak Sensor

Additionally, the following products are already available in Europe with ZWLR enabled out of the box:

  • ZEN57 Relay

  • ZEN58 Relay

The following products are currently in production and will also support ZWLR EU out of the box:

  • ZSE50 Siren & Chime

  • ZEN56 RGBW Controller

At this time, ZEN15 and ZSE11 are not yet scheduled for an SDK update to support ZWLR EU, but this is something we are planning to work on later this year.

We’ll continue to share updates as more devices become available with ZWLR EU support.

That’s good news. I’m looking forward to the ZSE42 update. Then I can finally equip the basement with water leak sensors.
Of course, I’ve already pre-ordered the ZSE50. That reminds me, there’s still no retailer for Zooz devices in Germany. It would be nice if that changed.
As for the Zen15, this plug will probably be the one with the best range on the market by far. Even without LR, it already achieves the distance of other manufacturers with LR. So I can hardly wait for an update.

Thank you very much for the information and keep up the good work.

This is not germany, but I guess it is inside EU so it should work for you too?

We have quite a few vendors in the EU, I’ve included our list of authorized distributors here: Zooz Authorized Distributors - Zooz Support Center

Just got a ZSE50, which works great in EU LR mode. Nice device btw.

Are there any news regarding the ZSE42 LR update? It would be really great if there were finally an LR water leak sensor available in Europe.

Regards,Oliver
