Pretty much said it all in the title. I’m looking for switches that support 800LR, Decora paddle shape, momentary return to center behavior where you can tap on the top to turn on and bottom to turn off regardless of the current state (so the switch state never feels out of sync with the relay state) and can switch an older bathroom fan?
The ZEN75 would fit that bill specifically.
Most Zooz switches are 800LR and are paddle that return to center. However different switches have different features and support different load types.
Thanks. It’s hard to tell from the Zooz product description which ones are “return to center” as they don’t really say.
Yes, all of them go to center. Even the toggles. ![]()
Actually all of the brands I can think of even beyond Zooz are also return to center. Inovelli, Leviton, GE, etc.
The ZAC99 momentary switch is the only one a little different - it is a momentary dumb switch (used for a variety of scenarios) and that only has an ‘up’ momentary click… not a down. (unless you mount it upside down,
then its the other way.)
[Actually I’ve seen some folks ask for ones that stay in an off or on position but I actually know of no smart switches that do that… other than those mechanical bots that fit over an existing switch, which I don’t consider to be a smart switch anyway.].
Thanks. That’s good to know that they’re all return to center. It’s interesting the zooz product descriptions either here or on their resellers don’t tell you that. There’s no way for a new customer to know they work that way.
And, in my case when I’m working with an AI to find a product that meets my requirements (which include return-to-center functionality), it doesn’t know to recommend zooz products because they don’t say theirs work that way in their product descriptions.
Understood. AI is great but it’s only as smart as what it is fed, and lacks or misreads context sometimes. One day we will all be in trouble LOL! I definitely noticed that using a paid subscription helps - especially if you use it often and it gets to know you and has expanded memory. I have subs for Claude, ChatGPT and CoPilot (which actually is Claude or CGPT behind the scenes.). In the beginning it used to give me bad info on products (Zooz included) but I corrected it and cited sources and it definitely did learn! I’ve also noticed each has their strong points and weak points. But that is a totally different thread that is too much like my day job for a Sunday! ![]()
When it comes to just starting out there’s a wealth of knowledge in this forum, as well as certain places on Reddit, Facebook, etc. [But you’ll get some die-hard (possibly unreasonable) fans over on the Reddit side.] While some/most/all of us really like Zooz, we are also very honest and if something better is out there we aren’t shy on recommending it.
Happy to help in any way we can along your journey.
You may also find @Sara’s pinned topic, The Smart Way to Choose a Smart Switch here on the forum helpful for Zooz switches in general, as it shares a nice selection diagrasm. (The complete article is on the Zooz Support Portal, where you may also find the article, Zooz On/Off Switch Selection Guide.) I’ve found Zooz staff very helpful in pointing out which products might make the most sense for a particular application.
