The Zooz team invited me to be part of the beta test group for the ZSE43 Tilt / Shock Sensor, so of course that means a new video! [Thank you Zooz!]
I have to say there was a lot of testing, and while I attempted to consolidate the findings and testing as much as possible the video topped out at almost a full hour! (Don’t worry - I do have chapter markers)
I covered basic integration and functional testing across the following z-wave environments:
And, of course, covered the calibration process and its importance. Using both the parameter method and the button press method.
I also attempted to make a whimsical ‘test mini mailbox’ which partially was a bad idea - but colorful and usable nonetheless. If you want to build your own mailbox I can post the parts list
Lastly - I had someone send me a list of detailed things they wanted to see tested on the device - and I answered them all as best I could. Of course if you see any errors or omissions, please let me know and I’ll update the video descriptions, etc. I always endeavor to be accurate and helpful to the community.
Your experience closely mimics mine with the Beta device test on Z-Box. In my case, I always calibrated using the button (rather than setting the parameter & waking the device), as I was standing on a ladder in the garage
My install has the mounting clip attached to the door and I found there was enough time to initiate calibration with the button, replace the device cover, and push it onto the mounting clip before actual calibration occurred. I had several failures trying to calibrate it off the door at my desk (but held vertically) and switched to on-door calibration. Subsequent feedback I received from Zooz indicates the delay between initiating calibration via the button and the beginning of calibration has been lengthened in the upcoming release firmware to make it easier to mount the sensor onto the door prior to the device actually beginning calibration. So “beat the clock” is less of an issue.
The change to the bigger, better battery is very welcome. My testing of other sensors using the CR2450 battery has shown good improvement in battery life in colder climates–after all, this thing is probably on a door of an unheated garage!
Overall, I agree 100% – this is a terrific upgrade to the product. Kudos to the team at Zooz. The newly upgraded ZSE43 800LR should serve customers very well…
