I have a pile of these CE recessed lights with nightlights in my media room (link below). They have no “smarts”… you toggle the main light vs. night light mode by turning them off and quickly back on again within a few seconds.
I’m curious if people have good solutions for using this with a smart lighting set up. The main problem is that there’s not any reliable way for a system to know which mode the lights are currently in. I think if I had them wired to (e.g.) ZEN77 I could get a read on the current draw, and then guess from that, but the lights are also dimmable, so I don’t know if there would be overlap between dimmed-down-but-still-main-light-mode vs max-brightness-nightlight-mode. (The Lutron casetas they are wired to now tell me nothing).
I use home-assistant.io by the way… Basically, I’m looking for a way to have “normal” light switches for these lights, but also be able to push a button / run an automation / etc. to reliably switch into a “movie watching” scene. Some lights get dimmed, some turned off, and these get either dimmed or toggled AND dimmed depending on the mode they are currently in.
Thanks!
