I just purchased my first few custom engraved faceplates and they look great. I was using clear p-touch labels that looked terrible and wear off quickly. This looks so much more professional and stops the family from asking me what each button does!!
Anyway - great job. Also very quick to produce and arrive especially considering they were mailed from Canada to me here in NJ. Highly recommend.
I thought about having the switches printed, but I’ve worried about changing (which has already happened). I’ve just been using the plastic labels, and try and offset them some (so you aren’t pressing directly on the label), so far it’s worked ok.
Haven’t tried it, but I once read elsewhere there’s an adhesive, clear film available in some office supply stores intended for laminating cards/documents that can be pressed into service in cases like this. (Sorry for the bad pun!) Print out the labels (P-Touch or whatever) and stick them face down on the sticky film, working out the bubbles as you go. Then use a sharp blade or scissors to cut out the label. Trim to size, remove the label backing material, and apply to the switch.
I have to admit the custom ones are not cheap. So I’m certainly not doing this everywhere. lol.
I share your concern about changes. These first two haven’t changed in about a year - so fairly stable. I do have other rooms that are more variable. And frankly if guests don’t go in a room (like my office) I’m not caring as I know what each button does. I just really liked the look for these primary high traffic areas.
Curious: what’s LT and LP. If super confidential you don’t have to answer.
LT: Lights, its turns off all the lights, fans, etc in the house.
LP: Lamp, turns on a table lamp in that room.
Both those were added more recently (started off only using it for the alarm arming)
We tried a couple different sizes of labels (including smaller print, so they could be fully spelled out) and everyone liked the larger labels (which meant abbreviations).
The alarm buttons only arm the alarm obviously. The camera switch only operates a couple of my many cameras, but it’s just a reset switch, it can’t actually turn the cameras off (for security reasons).
I might try something similar. I’ve been finishing up putting my Harley back together after being painted. From the factory it had some areas protected by film. I picked up 3M Paint / Body protectant tape to put back on it afterwards. It’s very clear, and applies easily. Might try some of that. It’s on the tour pack in three spots in the image below, the only spot really visible is the edges of the tape in the center (it’ll be covered by the rear seat once installed):
