ZSE44 Temp Sensor Outside

This has come up here before about the ZSE44 specs having an operating temp from 40-90 F. I know I had asked about this before and it was something about the Z-Wave specifications, and not that it wouldn’t necessarily operate outside of that range.

Started getting alerts from my outdoor ZSE44 this morning:

That’s actually pretty close to the correct temperature too. Pretty impressive for being outside it’s “recommended range”.

Would you believe it has the nerve to tell me the battery is low right now?

Interesting you should say that, @OhioYJ– I was just looking at the battery of my ZSE41 800LR Open/Close Sensor on our garage side door. It’s been indicating 0% battery for weeks, yet still is working…

Makes me wonder if perhaps the device firmware isn’t reporting the correct value??? Or there’s a temperature compensation issue in the hardware of these similar devices?

I didn’t even realize there was a temperature compensation. I know at first I wasn’t even thinking about it just being cold out and just replaced the battery as it was the original battery. Then I realized it was the weather when the new battery reported low as well (just not as low).

Also my experience. I thought I’d leave it for a while and see how long it continues to work. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
