GE ZW4007 40A Z-Wave (Enclosure Box by Jasco) Crashes Z-Box HUB on Adding

GE ZW4007 40A Z-Wave (Enclosure Box by Jasco) Crashes Z-Box HUB on Adding

Either by Smart Start or Protcol adding, Every time it kills the Z-box HUB then requiring Factory Reset and reloading of backup, The Auto repair fails

Well everthing else is working except this box, it would be a shame to return it within the return window over one single device that will not add to system.

And the time it takes to recover that fails then factory reset then recover is a ridiculous amount of time, like there are NOT faster microprocessors availableā€¦LoL

Picture below is the start of the addition of device

Goes for some time then crashes the Z-Box

Wow!

Hopefully you contacted Z-Box Support? Iā€™ve found them fairly responsive, although problems like this likely requiring developer support probably will require a few days to diagnose. You may be asked to provide log files (itā€™s easy, Iā€™ve done it a couple of times) to speed diagnosis of the problem.

Bottom line: no Z-Wave device should choke the hub! It should, at minimum, be paired as a ā€˜genericā€™ Z-Wave device or simply not paired.

Please let the community know how this turns out, Bryon!

Yes, I opened a support ticket with ZooZ

Me being stubborn I have tried getting that device to add many ways with same results.

Factory default then reload backup.

Iā€™m getting good at reloading the backups

After the attempted addition of said device this happens after it gets hung up and crashes

Tried both from laptop (PC) and App on Android

Every other device thatā€™s working was loaded via app

Have you tried exclusion of the device first then start a new inclusion?

It is in the z-wave standard every hub can reset a z-wave devices network, and have to be done before you can add it to a new.
Like if the device fails in inclusion, it might have network data still in memory.

Also might want to move the device or hub close to each other when inclusion is happening, just a feet away
this also might help

Yes, tried exclusion off old hub and inclusion on Z-box, and defaulted tooā€¦ Same crashā€¦

Working with ZooZ Support, have sent many logsdump files, they say they gave never seen this before.

Maybe a bad unit with bad Flash memory cells?

Will update findings here I get with support

Just tried to make it learn from the other controller hub that does work with the ZX4007 Jasco device.

Old hub transfered info to Z-Hub via learn mode then minutes after that crashedā€¦

Luckily I got a logsdump before it went offline and crashed.

The Jasco device still operates just fine on original hubā€¦

Waiting on ZooZ, may just demand a NEW replacement or if they wonā€™t just get a refund, only had 4 days now.

Hopefully they resolve it though as it works great with everything elseā€¦

Have another Z-Hub on the way to test if this happens with it.

ZooZ People are nice to work with

Hopefully this gets resolved one way or anotherā€¦

This time instead of immediately upgrading firmware I will try with what is on it, out of box.

Are Z-Hub Backups (Local) able to be loaded on to a Different Z-Hub or are the locked to the Z-Hubā€™s Serial Number?

Very Intuitive program for setting up, easily figured out most things I needed quickly without reading the manualā€¦LoL

Even have 9 LUA scenes created and running with zero previous knowledge.

Previous Z-Wave hub was very limited as it was built into Honeywell Alarm panel, Z-Hub is definitely a significant step up :grinning:

I havent tried to load a backup from on hub to another
But I am pretty sure it will work

I have had the same problem with the GE 40A and trying to add it to the Z-Box. Bought the Z-Box last week with the latest firmware running - 5.160.42. The GE unit worked fine with my previous controller - Z-Stick Gen5

Bryon:
I tried every step you mentioned (except contacting support) with the exactly the same results. The Android app simply places the device in the pending queue for inclusion and stays in ZWave ā€œpurgatoryā€ forever. With a PC, I either get an error within the first few seconds of inclusion or it hangs on ā€œ52/55ā€ of progress and then displays a 502 Gateway Error.

The Gateway error suggests rebooting but the system jumps straight to recovery mode and then does a series of recovery/reboots for 30 min or more. The last few times I tried a factory reset then attempted to add with no other devices - was a no go with the same results.

I suspect no since Iā€™m having the exact issue

Iā€™m going to try before updating firmware, fingers crossed.

Will be watching!

My next attack (if yours doesnā€™t pan out):

The 502 gateway error that I am seeing is suggests a connection problem during inclusion.

Iā€™m using the GE unit as a pool pump timer. With it being outside and some distance from the hub, I did try moving the hub to closer but there may have been a distance issue with the wi-fi needed by the hub. Will try connecting my lap top and the hub to a hot spot right near the GE unit and see how that goes.

I have the z-hub within 2 feet of GE 40A unit, same issue.
And itā€™s permanent location is about 18 feet away, so putting it closer doesnā€™t help.

Besides the Z-Wave device and comms to device are done at 908 MHz on the Z-Wave mesh network so I donā€™t think the 502 gateway error is there but rather itā€™s the Z-Hub going offline (Network) and into the Recovery mode not being available to app or PC.

Hopefully ZooZ gets Both our GE (Jasco) 40A controllers working as it does with all other Z-Wave Hubs.

Hopefully this doesnā€™t happen on other New Devices I might purchase and add to systemā€¦

The GE box it came in even had the Fibaro logo on it amongst other Z-Wave device manufacturers.

Received New Replacement Z-Hub

It is a Bad Software Update, I did not update New replacement Z-Hub to version 5.160.42 and left out of box version on Z-Hub which is 5.130.45

Version 5.160.42 is broken if it crashes the Z-Hub when adding the GE (Jasco) 40A 240V binary switch.

Out of box version added the GE (Jasco) binary switch without an issue.

Guess I will send back the original one for a refund, they havenā€™t got back with a fix so thatā€™s the best option.

VERSION 5.160.42 UPDATE DOES NOT WORK WITH SOME Z-WAVE DEVICES, Adding those devices crashes Z-Hub and device cannot ever be added.

EDIT: Upgraded to version 5.160.42 from Z-Hub version 5.130.45 that was all ready setup with my devices INCLUDING the GE (Jasco) ZW4007 40A 240V switch and ALL the device transferred over to new version and is working now.

The newly introduced BUG in Version 5.160.42 affects the addition of some Z-Wave devices from GE (Jasco) - Solution add those devices while using firmware version 5.130.45 in Z-Hub before updatingā€¦

Hopefully ZooZ can fix this or allow firmware regression back to version 5.130.45 for those that have this issue!

Big thanks for the reply/update. Was thinking of this/you today LOL

Bummer on my end, especially since I have 30+ nodes working right now. Iā€™ll open up a ticket with Zooz and see what they say.

Thanks again!

Decided to return the z-hub for a Full refund, besides the firmware issue with the GE (Jasco) 40A switch, I also had issue with geo-fence not working and cloud notifications being inconsistent especially with second unit tried.

I did like the layout and ease of use of the z-hub, hopefully they correct the issues found for all users.

Got the replacement hub today, the Hubitat C8 pro loaded the GE 40 Amp 240 Volt Switch without any issues.

Hopefully Zooz straightens out the firmware bug with this Z-Wave device, and possibly other Z-Wave devices.
